Support Your Athletes Without Losing Yourself
As the emotional demands on college coaches and athletics personnel continue to grow, many find themselves offering significant personal and emotional support to their athletes, often without the training or resources to do so effectively or sustainably.
This one day interactive workshop is designed specifically for athletics staff who want to build emotional resilience, set healthy boundaries, and better support their athletes without burning out. Grounded in core skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), participants will learn and practice techniques such as:
- Mindfulness – Develop present-moment awareness to enhance focus and reduce reactivity.
- Emotion Regulation – Recognize and manage intense emotions in yourself and others.
- Distress Tolerance – Respond to high pressure situations with calm, grounded strategies.
In addition to learning how to support their athletes more effectively, athletics personnel will gain practical skills they can apply in their own personal and professional lives.
Why Attend?
- Learn practical skills rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Address the increasing emotional demands of your role
- Take home tools you can use and teach
- Build community with other athletics personnel navigating similar challenges
What Is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioral approach that blends acceptance and change strategies to teach practical skills in four core areas: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Originally developed to treat high-intensity emotional challenges, DBT’s skills translate seamlessly into athletics contexts—helping you guide athletes through stress, setbacks, and team dynamics with clarity and confidence.
**Please note**: This workshop is not designed to train athletics personnel to become therapists or to provide clinical services. Rather, it equips them with foundational skills to manage the increased emotional demands of their roles and to support student-athletes more effectively within appropriate boundaries.
