Do you want to improve your connection and understanding of an Autistic family member?
Have you watched a family member struggle to support their Autistic child and wanted to help?
Are you uncertain how to talk to and about a grandchild, cousin, or sibling’s Autistic identity and needs?
This workshop is for all kinds of family members looking to better understand Autism and the Neurodiversity Movement. Our goals are to strengthen family relationships, increase our understanding of loved ones’ possible experiences, and begin developing informed, affirming, and practical ways to support our families and closest friends.
After this workshop, participants will have increased understanding of the basic components of Autistic experiences, awareness of the diversity and complexity of the Autistic community as a marginalized group, tools to reframe aspects of Autism and neurodivergence in affirming (not deficit-based) language, and support making personal goals to improve communication and practical ways to help loved ones.
This workshop centers the work of Autistic folks, and participants will take with them a resource list for continued exploration.
